Quality AND Performance

Born in 1990 and around 15 hands high, Chatanz is our senior Arab stallion
Totally home bred (Bonanza x Chatelaine)
Elegant, typey and very showy. He has a wonderfully flowing, extravagant trot
He is as laid back as you could wish in an Arab stallion, easily mixing his stud season duties with racing and endurance as required.

He is now retired from ridden work, so has more time to entertain his famale vistors.

In his youth he placed in many showing classes, including the Three Counties Show. These helped qualify him for an AHS Breeder's Futurity Race.

He was backed at 4 in mid 1994 and rapidly progressed in preparation for the Futurity race in August '95. In his first race (1 mile), he showed an impressive turn of speed through the field, after being left far behind in the early stages. In his second (1.5 mile) he fought off a strong challenge from a young French bred stallion Coum to claim his first win and advance to Grade 2.

By August 1995 he was fit enough to achieve a close second to Akh Tut in the Futurity (7 furlongs) against a strong field. He ended the racing year with a most impressive win at Goodwood taking the 1.5 mile British Bred Championship from the firm favourite Isaki. His second year of racing gained him a further two wins (progressing him to grade 1B).

Head to head against the French bred Coum
Chatanz second race and his first win
June 1995

Whilst he could beat many of the French bred horses, his high rating usually placed him against the top Sheikh owned set and resulted in race placings only. With the split into two racing organisations in 2000, his first outing of the year under AHS rules gave him another win over 2 miles 1 furlong.

In recent years his outings have been somewhat limited by the need to progress the training of our mares (this proving very successful with Franzara!)

As he matured, we have also moved him more into Endurance, where he has almost always recorded grade 1's in CTRs (Competitive Trail Rides). Onwards and upwards, he recorded a second place in his first 40 mile ER (Endurance Ride). 1998 Cirencester Festival, Bronze Buckle Cup © Peter Orr. Tel: 01507 588412
