Chatanz is extremely elegant, typey and very showy. He has a wonderful flowing, extravagant trot. He stands around 15 hands high. Chatanz has won and been placed in many showing classes, including the Three Counties Show. Chatanz is regularly ridden in company, even with an in-season mare. He has an extremely sensible and laid-back attitude to his work. He has taken part in Riding Club events, winning at Ridden showing, Dressage and Show Jumping. He is also extremely talented at Cross-Country.
He has won 6 races over 1m 4f and over, including the British Bred Championship at Goodwood . Chatanz is a Grade 1A Arab racehorse and has been placed in most of his 34 starts Arab racing. In 1995,1997 and 1997 he won the AHS Premium scheme Racehorse Award. In 1998 & 1999 he gained the AHS Premium Scheme leading current sire of race-horses award In 1996 and 1997 he won the A.R.A.B. Breeders Award and in 1996 gained 3rd place in the AHS Performance Horse Award. In 1997 Chatanz passed the National Stallion Association Performance Test GRADE 1. and was accepted as an A.H.S. Premium Stallion
Chatanz’s son Al Reeh Janoob also won the British Bred Championship in 1999.(12 wins to date).
Chatanz has sired numerous top class endurance horses, notably dual EGB National Champion, Gryphon, and FEI 160 *** winner Falaina Bint Chatanz.
Chatanz has gained many Grade 1's in Endurance Graded rides. He has regularly competed at Advanced level and FEI Endurance races, and was selected to represent Great Britain on the 2002 EGB Intermediate Team at Theux in Belgium. In 2003 Chatanz has won the Berkshire Downs 65K ER and has been placed 2nd in the Cotswolds 80K ER and 5th in the Cirencester 100K ER, 8th in the 3 Rivers 80K ER. He was also 4th in the AHS Marathon race, gaining the Best Conditioned award.
Chatanz's grandsire Klarnet was a leading Russian Arab racehorse, He only stood at stud for 1 year in this country, but has sired several successful Arab racehorses. He was leading sire of Arab racehorses in this country from 1990 to 1992 . Klarnet's sire Aswan was a gift from the government of Egypt to Russia. He has sired numerous successful show and race horses. Aswan's sire, the famous Egyptian Arab Nazeer, appears 3 times in Chatanz's pedigree, through the Egyptian stallions Ghazal and Hadban Enzahi.
Chatanz's dam Chatelaine has proved to be the ideal riding horse. In 1991 she was the E.H.P.S. Novice Champion and won the Versatile Horse award of the Welsh Regional Group of the AHS by winning or being placed in a variety of disciplines. She is a Grade 1A Arab racehorse, and has qualified for an Arab Horse Society Premium award. She has won 8 of her 25 starts, only being out of the frame on 3 occasions. In 1992 her wins included the Long Distance Championship, the British Bred mares Championship and she was Leading Pure Bred Arab Racehorse and Leading Race Mare.
Chatanz's granddam Chazana, was bred by Melissa Arabians in Holland.Chazana's sire Dynamit was exported to New Zealand, where he became a noted sire of Endurance horses. Her dam Judina is of Spanish bloodlines.
Chatanz's sire Bonanza was noted as an outstandingly versatile performance stallion. He won the AHS Performance horse award 3 years running. He was an AHS Premium stallion, and had won in most disciplines including Arab racing, Endurance, the Arab Marathon, Show Jumping, Dressage, Showing, Eventing, Hunter trials and Gymkhana. He was particularly noted as an outstanding Endurance horse, winning the 100 mile Red Dragon Endurance race and the 50 mile Breamore Endurance race. Bonanza was by British National Champion Banat, winner of several races in Poland and sire of many outstanding show and racehorses. Bonanza's dam Chantilla has won at the National Arab Show and has also won the Princess Muna Saddle of Honour with her family group. She is also the dam of British National Ridden Champion Chalyska.
has sired at least 16 Advanced Endurance horses, 8 having competed Internationally.
For many years he has been the AHS Premium Scheme’s overall leading sire of Endurance Horses.
Bonanza is also the sire of the EGB National Champions Bonnie Anne(2002), Franzara(2003) and Delorto Zaranz(2004), and Grandsire of EGB Senior Champion 2004 Warrens Hill Chanda.
Arab Horse Society Premium Qualified mares (open to all breeds) and certain "Nominated" mares will receive a Premium on registering a foal by Chatanz.
